Charity Challenge sets sights on Queen’s Charities
First organised in 1985 this year represents the 27th anniversary of AMYA’s ( Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association) Challenge. The annual event sets the ‘challenge’ to Muslim youth to raise funds for chosen charities and to engage Muslim youth in the participation and organisation of the event each year. Over the course of the years, it has raised in excess of £1 million for charitable causes.
Last year, the event consisted of a 10km walk or run in Leamington Spa. More than 800 young British Muslims attended and many more helped to raise £138,000 for the supported charities.
Over the years the format has evolved into a sponsored 10k walk or run and has taken place in different locations across the country.
This year the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association UK is celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the Charity Challenge will take on the extra challenge of raising money for Her Majesty’s Jubilee Charitable causes. And an appropriately the venue is to be held around the Tower of London. The final route will again be a 10km run or walk. With this being an exceptional year for the UK and Her Majesty, the key aim is to ensure that the event is bigger and better than before.
