Teams to play football for 24 hours at Watford training ground

A 24-hour football marathon is set to be staged at Watford FC’s training ground, with a number of teams taking part. The event will take place at the location – in Bell Lane, London Colney – on May 20 and 21.  Teams will play in 60 or 120-minute slots, until the “fun-filled day of football, camaraderie, and community spirit” has been completed. The event will take place at Watford FC’s training ground. The event is in aid of the Watford FC Community Sports and Education Trust (CSE) and Humanity First, a charity serving disaster struck and socially disadvantaged individuals and families in the poorer communities of the world.

A target of £25,000 has been set, with funds set to support Watford FC CSE Trust’s mental health and wellbeing primary school programme and Humanity First’s clean water solutions for villages in Africa. Watford FC CSE Trust’s community director, Rob Smith, said: “We look forward to welcoming a range of players to the Hornets’ home away from matchdays, it promises to be a great community event. “We’re thankful to AMYA and Humanity First for their collaboration on this project and thanks in advance to those who are able to take part and support our cause.”

AMYA’s national vice president and lead organiser for the Mercy 4 Mankind charity events, Luqman Bajwa, added: “We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Watford FC CSE Trust and Humanity First for this wonderful event. “As a youth organization committed to serving humanity, we are excited to contribute to the charitable efforts and make a positive difference in communities.” Humanity First UK’s chairman, Dr Aziz Hafiz, commented: “We are proud to be part of this meaningful initiative that brings together sports, charity, and community. “We look forward to a successful event and making a real impact through the funds raised for our clean water solutions in Africa.” Those who wish to take part in the event can register at the Watford CSE Trust’s website www.watfordfccsetrust.com/24football/. All ages and skill levels can partake in the event, and sponsorship opportunities are also available.
