Press Release: Muslims Launch Campaign to Help Combat Food Poverty This Christmas

4 December 2020

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK has launched its ‘Cheap & Easy Cooking’ campaign today to help tackle food poverty.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a serious impact on the UK and many are struggling to make ends meet. In addition to supporting food banks, helping distribute school meals, providing cooked food for frontline staff and helping neighbours, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Communinty wants to help combat food poverty through it’s latest campaign.

The campaign shares cost saving and easy to cook recipes, encouraging people to cook at home rather than buying costly ready meals.

It features a recipe booklet and short video tutorial on how to make these dishes quickly, easily and cheaply – with some meals costing as little as nine pence per serving. Starter packs for the recipes are also being donated to foodbanks to help the most needy.

The National President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK, Rafiq Hayat said:

“At an unprecendented time in the history of our nation, our lives have been severely disrupted by COVID-19, particularly for the most vulnerable in our communities. As Muslims, service to humanity is our duty, and given the challenge of food poverty, the campaign aims to make tasty and healthy meals accessible to all.”
