Keighley Ahmadiyya youth group in clean sweep to start 2026

After New Year’s Day morning prayers, volunteers – wearing high-visibility jackets and armed with litter pickers and bin bags – targeted areas across the town centre.

Humza Sikandar, imam and association youth leader, says: “The new year is an important opportunity to reflect on how we want to move forward.

“For us, it begins with turning to God in prayer and then putting our faith into action by serving the communities we live in.”This initiative is about doing what we believe is right and setting a positive tone for the year ahead. It reflects a core Islamic principle that cleanliness is an integral part of faith, as well as a wider sense of responsibility towards the environment and society.

“Care for one’s community is a shared value transcending background, belief and culture.”
