Sheffield heatwave: Putting faith into action with free water stall
As temperatures across the UK soared to between 32°C and 35°C, volunteers from Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Sheffield distributed 1,130 free cold bottles of water in Sheffield City Centre outside the Town Hall, helping members of the public stay hydrated and safe during the hot weather.
The initiative formed part of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s long-standing commitment to serving humanity and supporting local communities in times of need.Throughout the day, volunteers provided water free of charge to passers-by, regardless of background, faith, or belief, while also engaging with members of the public in friendly conversation.
Amir Mahmood, President of Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Sheffield, said: “Extreme heat can affect anyone, particularly older people, vulnerable individuals, and those working or travelling outdoors. We were pleased to support our local community in this small way and were encouraged by the positive response from members of the public. Simple acts of kindness can make a real difference and help bring people together.”
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community believes that faith should inspire service to others. Guided by the Islamic principle of compassion and the motto ‘Love for All, Hatred for None’, members regularly participate in charitable and community initiatives across the United Kingdom.
The water distribution initiative also provided an opportunity for positive engagement with the wider community. Volunteers met people from all walks of life, demonstrating through practical service the values of compassion, respect, and neighbourliness that lie at the heart of Islam.At a time when communities can sometimes feel divided and misconceptions about Islam continue to exist, initiatives such as this help foster understanding through meaningful interaction and service. By serving others without distinction, Ahmadiyya Muslims seek to contribute to stronger, more connected, and more harmonious communities.
