Muslims Urged to Undertake Jihad Of Peace to Win Hearts and Minds

Global convention of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community to tell Ahmadi Muslims to become ambassadors for peace

• More than 35,000 Muslims to gather near Alton, Hampshire at the Jalsa Salana that is the UK’s largest Annual Convention of Muslims

  • Convention takes place from 3-5 August
  • Keynote speaker is the Caliph of the Worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community

Britain’s biggest annual convention of Muslims, which sees more than 35,000 members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community gather in Hampshire, will hear a cry for jihad that is unlike any other.

The call to action will come in the form of a pledge of allegiance that commits the followers to an absolute devotion to peace.

The World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslims, His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, will tell adherents:

“At a time of worldwide conflict, we should remember this basic principle that it is better for all forms of evil and cruelty to be suppressed and for all forms of goodness and humanity to be endorsed. In this way, evil will not spread far, whilst virtue and peace will spread far and wide and adorn our society. If we promote the good that is happening in the world, we can overcome those who seek to undermine our cherished values of mercy and humanity.”

And His Holiness will take from his global community a pledge of allegiance – known as the Bai’at.

In a simple, solemn and emotional ceremony just after noon on Sunday 5 August, tens of thousands of Ahmadi Muslims will physically link up to form a human chain that will stretch out across the 210-acre site in Alton, Hampshire.

United, they will make a solemn pledge.

Simultaneously translated into more than 15 languages, the pledge will be broadcast around the world so that Ahmadi Muslims wherever they are can connect- via their TV or mobile device to the Caliph who will lead the Bai’at or pledge of allegiance.

Instituted over a century ago, it commits every member of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community to a jihad for peace.

The 10-point pledge includes commitments not to inflict injury on any of God’s creatures, to have sympathy for all of God’s creatures, and to devote one’s talents to their welfare.

Rafiq Hayat, UK President of the Ahmadiyya Community, said:

“The Jalsa Salana or annual convention of the community is important for renewing ties and strengthening our faith.

“It is also a public demonstration of Islam’s teachings of loyalty as we raise the Union Jack as well as our community’s flag and celebrate the freedom of faith in the UK. Our faith makes us duty bound to serve the country to the best of our abilities.

“The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community represents a renaissance of Islam and highlights its message of peace that is directly at odds with all forms of extremism.”

The three-day spiritual convention will see faith, political and civic leaders address the Jalsa that is a beacon for peace and promotes good community relations under a banner of Love for All, Hatred for None.”
