Hundreds of local members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK (AMCUK) took to the streets this New Year’s day to take part in a voluntary litter pick. The event, which took place on Saturday, January 1, saw members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, getting involved to clean up their streets. The voluntary clean-up was arranged in partnership with Doncaster Council.

Some of our members have enjoyed living in Doncaster for decades, and so any opportunity to contribute positively to the town and its people is a source of great pride, honour and pleasure for us. Bilal Mahmood said: “As Ahmadiyya Muslims, our year began with pre-dawn prayers for a peaceful, prosperous and happy new year, for us and everyone in the world. “Thereafter we all got together and went out on to the streets to clean up after the New Year celebrations have ended. “This is our way of celebrating the new year. “This isn’t just about keeping our surroundings clean, but also a good reminder to ourselves of our religious obligation to serve the wider community. “We are very much part of this town. We are here to serve the wider community in whichever positive way possible.”
