Muslim World Leader Opens Wales’s Newest Mosque Wales’s First Purpose-Built Mosque of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Mosque Opens in Cardiff
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK is pleased to announce the official opening of the Baitur Raheem Mosque in Cardiff, a significant landmark and the Community’s first purpose-built mosque in Wales.
The mosque was inaugurated by His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the worldwide Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community who made a special visit to Cardiff for the opening. The inauguration on 23 November welcomed local and national guests, political and faith leaders and members of civic society. The mosque was also be decorated with the Welsh Flag (Y Ddraig Goch) for the event.
His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, said:
“Mosques are places of prayer and beacons of peace. By strengthening one’s link with God, one is drawn evermore to serve God’s creation with love and compassion. This is how the true purpose of a mosque is fulfilled and how it serves to spread harmony to the whole of society – to Muslims and non-Muslims alike.”
Rafiq Hayat, National President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK, commented on the significance of the new building:
“The opening of the Baitur Raheem Mosque is a momentous occasion for our community and for the people of Cardiff and Wales. It is our sincerest hope that this mosque will be a centre of goodwill and a source of strength for community and country.”
Mirza Waqas Ahmad, National President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association UK, said,
“This historic mosque is the culmination of years of dedication and sacrifice by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association, who funded most of the £2.3 million site acquisition and construction costs through the generous contributions of our members and other members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.”
The foundation stone for the Mosque was laid on 9 September 2023 and the construction was completed in two years.
Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Cardiff are actively involved in charitable initiatives, including volunteer street cleaning, blood donation campaigns, and outreach programmes, embodying the Islamic tenet of serving one’s neighbours and nation.
Mr Noman Ahmad, Regional President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, South West Region, which includes Wales, added:
“We are incredibly excited to open the doors of Baitur Raheem. We look forward to welcoming everyone to visit, engage with us and see this beautiful new building. It will be a centre dedicated to serving Cardiff and promoting mutual understanding.”
The Baitur Raheem Mosque complex has a total capacity of 550 worshippers. This includes a main prayer area, and a multi-purpose hall.
