Leader of World Ahmadiyya Muslim Community to Address London Conference on how Muslims can Contribute to Peace and Cohesion
A worldwide Muslim leader will deliver the keynote address at the National Peace Symposium in London and reassert the role of religion in promoting peace, emphasising that the true teachings of Islam are the solution and not the problem. The symposium will also stress the need for justice and equanimity in the handling of international relations to avoid regional conflicts from erupting into a world war. Ministers, MPs, diplomats, mayors, religious and civic leaders are to converge on western Europe’s biggest mosque to hear at first-hand how Muslims are themselves countering extremism.
The event entitled Justice, The Foundation for Lasting Peace, takes place on 19 March at Baitul Futuh Mosque in Morden, Surrey and more than 21 countries will be represented at the landmark event. His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Caliph of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community will deliver the keynote address. The unique event, which has also received a special message of support from the Vatican, brings together more than 800 people from the world of faith, politics and civic society, will also affirm that by following Islam, Muslims themselves can provide a template for peace, loyalty and good citizenship that is needed worldwide.
The event is hosted by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, whose UK branch was established more than more than 100 years ago, and is a testament to how Muslims can integrate and contribute to the well-being of society. But the need for justice is paramount, says His Holiness: “The Holy Qur’an unequivocally calls for the establishment of peace and calls on Muslims to act compassionately towards all of mankind.
“As I have stressed on many occasions the flames of war are increasing and unless mankind turns to God and seeks peace with his Creator and with each other, there is a very real and growing risk that local conflicts will engulf the entire world.“Islam teaches that in all circumstances, no matter how difficult, you must remain firmly attached to the principles of justice and integrity. The truth is that sustainable peace can never be established until there is justice at every level of society.
“The world stands in desperate need of peace and security. This is the urgent issue of our time. All nations and all peoples must come together for the greater good and unite in their efforts to stop all forms of cruelty, persecution and injustice perpetrated in the name of religion or in any other way.”Through his many sermons, lectures, books and personal meetings His Holiness has called for the separation of mosque and state and has championed the need for universal human rights through justice for all.
Rafiq Hayat, President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK, said:
“It is a great honour to have His Holiness address this flagship event. There is a desperate need for people to focus on the means to achieve peace and unity and given the tumultuous state of affairs worldwide the message of His Holiness is both critical and timely.”“On this auspicious occasion, His Holiness will also present the Ahmadiyya Muslim Prize for the Advancement of Peace to Hadeel Qasim, a lady from Iraq who has been working tirelessly to look after refugee children in camps in Iraq. Her work reflects the true spirit of Islam of selfless service in extremely difficult and hostile circumstances.”
