Early start as young Muslims take on New Year clean-up in Hayes
YOUNG Muslims from Hayes took the initiative to help keep the streets clean after the New Year festivities. Members of Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) celebrated by being up at the crack of dawn to undertake their community work. They gathered at the Baitul Amn Mosque in Royal Lane, Hillingdon, at 6am for voluntary night prayers and then set off to clean Barra Hall Park, Hayes town centre and Stockley Park Roundabout on New Year’s Day.
The Big Street Clean is the latest initiative for the group of young men. They have also organised blood donation sessions, collected money for British charities, visited children’s hospitals and nursing homes to hand out gifts and donated food to the homeless and vulnerable on Christmas Day. Gulfam Baig, youth leader for Hayes, said: “Our members have enjoyed living in Hayes for decades, so any opportunity to help our community is a much -welcomed one.
“Cleaning the streets of Hayes also presents us with an opportunity to become better Muslims as cleanliness is an integral part of our faith. Giving up a couple of hours can make a huge difference.”
