Lewisham Council Hosts Community Iftar Bringing Together Local Communities
After hosting a series of successful Big Iftar events at Tahir Mosque in recent years, the Bromley and Lewisham branch of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community were honoured to be invited to attend the first Community Iftar hosted by the Lewisham Council at the Civic suite on 6 March 2026.
A delegation of members from the Bromley & Lewisham branch attended this exciting event which attracted over 100 attendees, including local community groups, councillors, Mayors police, Janet Daby MP three other local mosques and local families and residents.
The formal session included short talks reading from the Holy Quran and poetry.
Imam Faiz Ahmad addressed the attendees emphasising that fasting is not merely refraining from food and drink, but a comprehensive spiritual exercise designed to cultivate self-discipline, moral reform, empathy and closeness to God.
Local resident, and outreach coordinator, Sameer Khan said
“It was an honour to be hosted by Lewisham Council for this first Community Iftar which showcased the diversity across our local community and brought us all together to commemorate the month of Ramadan. Speaking with everyone here has really engendered a sense of unity which is extremely important today.”
