Sheffield communities come together for Big Iftar at Baitul Afiyat Mosque Sheffield
Residents, community representatives, and families gathered at the Baitul Afiyat Mosque in Sheffield on Saturday, March 7 as the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Sheffield hosted its annual Big Iftar event.
The event, held at the Baitul Afiyat mosque on Sussex Street, welcomed guests from across the local community for an evening focused on peace, dialogue and strengthening community relations during the holy month of Ramadan.
Visitors were offered an insight into the significance of Ramadan through informal discussions and presentations about fasting and Islamic traditions. Guests also had the opportunity to tour the mosque and exhibition, ask questions and learn more about the practices and values of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.As sunset approached, attendees joined together to observe the moment Muslims break their fast.
Guests shared dates and water before enjoying the iftar meal together, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for people of all backgrounds.Amir Mahmood, President of Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Sheffield, said: “The Big Iftar is an opportunity to bring people together and strengthen the bonds within our community. Ramadan is a special time for Muslims, and sharing the experience of breaking the fast with our friends and neighbours helps build understanding and friendship.

The Big Iftar is part of a nationwide initiative that encourages Muslims to open their mosques and homes to neighbours, promoting neighbourliness, dialogue and community cohesion across the UK.The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a global Islamic movement founded in 1889 that emphasises peace, interfaith dialogue and service to humanity. Its guiding principle is “Love for All, Hatred for None.”
