Baitus Samad Mosque Welcomes Community for Open Day

Baitus Samad Mosque on Fitzwilliam Street opened its doors today for a community open day and coffee-and-cake morning, organised by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Huddersfield. The gathering brought together neighbours, local organisations, faith representatives, and members of the public for a morning focused on understanding and cooperation.

Warm Welcome and Words of Unity

The programme began with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an by Mr Mohammad Tahir Virk, followed by an English translation read by Mr Farhan Uddin. The President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Huddersfield, Fatihul-Haq, welcomed attendees and outlined the purpose of the event. He spoke about the importance of creating opportunities for people to meet, learn about each other’s beliefs, and strengthen community ties. Quoting the Qur’anic principle encouraging unity, he reminded guests: “And hold fast, all together, to the rope of Allah and be not divided.” He emphasised that such gatherings help build trust, dispel misconceptions, and encourage peaceful cooperation, values central to the community’s motto, “Love for All, Hatred for None.”

Open Discussion on Faith and Misconceptions

Guests then heard a presentation from Mr Sabahat Karim, who provided an overview of Islamic teachings and responded to a broad range of questions. Topics included women’s rights, the veil, Islamophobia, and general queries about Shariah. Attendees welcomed the open, respectful tone of the discussion, noting that the session provided a rare chance to explore complex subjects in a calm and friendly environment.

Faith and Community Groups Come Together

Representatives from Jewish, Christian, and other faith communities attended, along with members of the police and various local organisations. Visitors were given a guided tour of the mosque and explored an exhibition showcasing translations of the Holy Qur’an in multiple languages. Books and literature were also made available for guests to take home.

A Morning of Hospitality and Connection

Refreshments were served throughout the event, helping to create a relaxed and sociable atmosphere. Many guests commented on the warmth of the welcome and expressed strong support for similar events in the future.

Building Harmony Through Dialogue

The open day underscored the positive impact of sincere conversation and highlighted the value of working together to foster harmony and understanding across all communities.
